It’s a Family Thing! helps families make the work of home easier to see and easier to share.
If your family setup is already ready, you do not need to start from scratch. Open the app, review what is there, complete one task, and adjust as needed.
The goal is to make today a little lighter.
Step 1: Open or install the app
If It’s a Family Thing! is already installed, open it and sign in.
If you do not have the app yet, install it from the correct app store for your device:
iPhone or iPad:
Download It’s a Family Thing! from the Apple App Store
Android:
Download It’s a Family Thing! from Google Play
Then sign in using the email connected to your family setup.
If you came from an email link, use that link first. It may take you to the right starting point.
Step 2: Review your family setup
Your setup may already include:
- Family members
- A starter path
- A few suggested tasks
- A routine or family goal
- Reminders or next steps
Take one minute to look around. You do not need to change everything.
Ask:
- Who is in the family setup?
- What tasks are listed today?
- Which task would make life lighter if it got done?
- Is anything confusing or too much?
Step 3: Complete one task today
The fastest way to understand the app is to complete one task.
Pick something simple:
- Clear the table
- Pack backpack
- Start homework
- Feed the pet
- Put shoes by the door
- Put lunchbox in the kitchen
- Do a two-minute reset
Mark it complete when it is done.
This first action helps your family see that the app is not just a setup screen. It is a daily support tool.
Step 4: Keep the first setup small
A good first setup might include:
- 5 to 7 tasks
- One due time
- One reminder
- One family member invited
- One quick check-in
That is enough.
If you add too much too early, the app can start to feel like another thing to manage. Start with less and build only when it helps.
Step 5: Set one due time
Pick one task that needs a clear time.
Examples:
- Pack backpack by 7:45 AM
- Start homework by 4:30 PM
- Clear table by 7:00 PM
- Put clothes in hamper by 8:00 PM
A due time helps the task move from “sometime today” to “we know when this should happen.”
Step 6: Add one reminder
Choose the reminder that would reduce the most parent repeating.
Good first reminders:
- Morning backpack reminder
- After-school lunchbox reminder
- Homework start reminder
- Bedtime reset reminder
- Trash night reminder
Do not add reminders for everything. One useful reminder is better than ten ignored reminders.
Step 7: Invite someone only when ready
If you want to share the load, invite a partner, child, or family member.
Before inviting them, make sure the setup is easy to explain:
- “Here are the few things we are starting with.”
- “You only need to check this one area.”
- “We are trying this for a week.”
- “We can adjust it if it does not work.”
A small invitation works better than handing over a complicated system.
Step 8: Check progress once a day
A daily check-in can be short.
Ask:
- What got done?
- What still needs attention?
- What felt lighter?
- What caused friction?
Then leave the rest for later.
Step 9: Adjust one thing
After a few days, adjust one thing:
- Remove a task no one needs
- Rename a confusing task
- Change a due time
- Add a reminder
- Invite one more person
- Make a task smaller
One adjustment can make the whole setup feel better.
Common questions
Do I need to complete setup before using the app?
No. You can start with the setup that is already ready and adjust as you go.
How many tasks should I start with?
Start with 5 to 7. Add more only when your family is ready.
What if my family is already overwhelmed?
Start with one task that would make the day lighter. Do not try to organize everything at once.
Should I invite my child right away?
Invite your child when the tasks are simple and clear. Younger kids may need a parent to walk through it first.
