Understanding Due Time, Anytime, and As Needed Tasks

Not every task needs a strict deadline. Some responsibilities need to happen by a certain time. Others can happen at any point in the day. A few need to be available whenever the family needs them.

Quick Start

  1. Use a due time when the task has a real deadline.
  2. Use Anytime when it should happen once during the scheduled period.
  3. Use As Needed when it may be completed more than once.
  4. Add reminders only when they help the right person act.

Due time

  • A due time gives the task a clear finish line.
  • Use it for school preparation, pet care, or transitions where timing matters.
  • A default reminder may be sent 15 minutes before the task is due.

Anytime

  • An Anytime task can be completed once during its scheduled period.
  • It does not need a fixed clock time.
  • It works for flexible responsibilities such as reading or tidying a personal space.

As Needed

  • An As Needed task is available whenever the responsibility comes up.
  • It can be completed multiple times.
  • Whoever completes it receives the configured S’mores for that completion.

Family Example

Feed the dog by 7:30 AM may need a due time. Read for 15 minutes can be Anytime. Refill the pet water bowl can be As Needed.

Good to Know

  • Start with the smallest version that solves the problem.
  • Change one setting at a time so you can see what helped.
  • Missed days are information, not proof that your family failed.
  • Open Help in the IAFT app and send a message if something does not work as expected.

Best First Action

Review one task and choose the simplest timing option that matches how it happens in real life.
