How to Start When Your Child Does Not Use the App Yet

A child does not need to manage their own device for IAFT to be useful. A parent can begin by adding the child, assigning a few tasks, and helping them learn the routine in person.

Quick Start

  1. Add your child to the family.
  2. Assign one or two simple tasks.
  3. Show the child what the task means.
  4. Mark the first completion together.
  5. Let the child use the app directly later when it helps.

Parent-managed use

  • The parent can set up tasks, reminders, S’mores, and rewards.
  • The child can follow the visible routine without having a separate login right away.
  • The parent can record completion while the child is learning.

Build toward ownership

  • Use clear task names.
  • Let the child practice the same task several times.
  • Step back gradually instead of expecting independence on the first day.

Keep the task list small

  • Start with one task per child.
  • Add more only after the first task feels familiar.
  • Use reminders for support, not pressure.

Family Example

A younger child may own Put shoes by the door. The parent opens the task with them, marks it complete together, and praises the contribution. The child can use their own profile later.

Good to Know

  • Start with the smallest version that solves the problem.
  • Change one setting at a time so you can see what helped.
  • Missed days are information, not proof that your family failed.
  • Open Help in the IAFT app and send a message if something does not work as expected.

Best First Action

Choose one task your child can understand without needing to use the app alone.
