How to Show Chores on the Calendar

S’moresUp can show chores and events together in the Family Calendar.

This can help families plan responsibilities around school, appointments, practices, and other commitments.

It can also make the Calendar crowded.

Use the setting only when it helps the family see the day more clearly.

What Appears

When chore display is on, the Calendar may include:

  • Scheduled chores
  • Chores with due times
  • Anytime chores
  • Repeating chores
  • Family events
  • Member-specific events
  • Google Calendar items

Chores and events remain different types of items.

Turn Chore Display On or Off

The setting belongs at the family or General Settings level.

The basic flow is:

  1. Open family or General Settings.
  2. Find Display chores on Calendar.
  3. Turn it on or off.
  4. Save.
  5. Return to the Calendar.
  6. Check the result.

Exact navigation should be verified.

When Showing Chores Helps

Turn chore display on when:

  • The family plans by time
  • Chores must happen before events
  • Children need one view of the day
  • Parents want to see workload around activities
  • The family uses the Calendar during a daily check-in

Example:

Maya sees:

  • Pack backpack at 7:30 AM
  • School event at 3:00 PM
  • Soccer practice at 5:30 PM
  • Put lunchbox in sink at 6:30 PM

The Calendar shows the order of the day.

When to Hide Chores

Turn chore display off when:

  • The Calendar becomes too crowded
  • The family already uses Today’s Progress for chores
  • Small daily chores hide important events
  • Children find the mixed view confusing
  • The family wants the Calendar to show plans only

Hiding chores from Calendar does not delete them.

They remain in Today’s Progress and Weekly View.

How Due Times Affect Placement

A chore with a specific time can appear at that point in the Calendar.

Examples:

  • Feed dog at 8:00 AM
  • Take trash out at 7:00 PM

The due time helps the Calendar place the responsibility.

Anytime Chores

An Anytime chore belongs to a scheduled day or period without a fixed due time.

Its exact placement in Calendar should be verified.

The family should understand that Anytime does not mean unimportant.

It means the family member can choose when to complete it during the scheduled period.

Repeating Chores

Repeating chores appear based on their schedule.

If the Calendar shows an occurrence on the wrong day, check:

  • Chore schedule
  • Start date
  • Selected days
  • Due time
  • Member assignment
  • Family week-start setting

Edit the repeating chore for future occurrences.

Member Visibility

A family member should see chores connected to their profile.

Parents may see the broader family Calendar.

Use member filters where available to reduce clutter.

Do not assume that changing an event’s members changes a chore assignment.

Calendar Versus Today’s Progress

Use Calendar to see chores beside plans.

Use Today’s Progress to:

  • Complete chores
  • Review pending work
  • Handle approval
  • See Done

The Calendar is a planning view, not the main completion screen.

Calendar Versus Weekly View

Use Weekly View to look back at:

  • Completed
  • Missed
  • Late
  • Locked
  • Approval activity
  • Family-member patterns

Calendar helps plan. Weekly View helps review.

Example

A family turns on chore display for a busy Saturday.

The Calendar shows:

  • 9:00 AM dentist appointment
  • 11:00 AM clean bedroom
  • 2:00 PM birthday party
  • Anytime: fold towels

The parent notices that the bedroom chore conflicts with travel time and moves the chore schedule.
