How Rewards Work

Rewards help connect effort to something meaningful. In It’s a Family Thing!, rewards can be simple, like extra screen time, family movie night, picking dinner, saving toward money, or one-on-one time.

Quick Start

  1. Decide whether rewards will help your family right now.
  2. Create one or two simple rewards.
  3. Choose how many S’mores are needed for each reward.
  4. Explain the reward clearly to your child.
  5. Let your child work toward the reward.

Why this helps

Simple recognition can support a new habit while keeping the focus on contribution and growth.

Good to know

  • Rewards should support the habit, not become the whole reason for helping.
  • Non-money rewards often work very well.
  • Start with fewer rewards so kids understand the system.

Family Example

Create one small reward and one family reward. Keep both easy to understand.

Good to Know

  • Start with the smallest version that solves the problem.
  • Change one setting at a time so you can see what helped.
  • Missed days are information, not proof that your family failed.
  • Open Help in the IAFT app and send a message if something does not work as expected.

Best First Action

Create one small reward and one family reward. Keep both easy to understand.
