Understanding Advanced Task Types

Some responsibilities belong to one person. Others need a fair rotation, teamwork, or an open task that anyone can complete. Advanced task types help the assignment match the way the work happens at home.

Quick Start

  1. Use Individual for one clear owner.
  2. Use As Needed when anyone can complete the task.
  3. Use Rotate when turns should change.
  4. Use Collaborate for teamwork, Compete for a friendly race, and Bonus for optional extra work.

Individual and As Needed

  • Individual assigns the full task to one person.
  • As Needed lets whoever completes it receive the S’mores for that completion.

Rotate and Collaborate

  • Rotate assigns each scheduled occurrence to the next person in the rotation.
  • Collaborate assigns the work to several members and splits the task’s S’mores among them.

Compete and Bonus

  • Compete gives the task to the first person who marks it complete.
  • Bonus is an optional task that a member can claim and complete for the full value.

Choose carefully

  • Advanced types should solve a real family problem.
  • Use Collaborate instead of Compete when comparison creates tension.
  • Keep assignment rules easy for children to understand.

Family Example

Rotate can make trash duty fair. Collaborate can support a garage cleanup. Bonus can offer an optional job for someone saving toward a reward.

Good to Know

  • Start with the smallest version that solves the problem.
  • Change one setting at a time so you can see what helped.
  • Missed days are information, not proof that your family failed.
  • Open Help in the IAFT app and send a message if something does not work as expected.

Best First Action

Choose one shared task and decide whether Individual, Rotate, or Collaborate best matches the way your family wants to handle it.
