Campfire content cannot be edited after publishing.
When something needs to be corrected or removed, deletion is the main confirmed option.
Use deletion carefully because removed content and attached comments may be lost.
Who Can Delete a Post?
The author can delete their own Campfire post.
A parent can also delete a child’s post.
A child should not be assumed to have permission to delete another person’s post.
Exact controls should be verified.
What Happens When a Post Is Deleted?
Deleting a post removes:
- The post text
- Attached photos
- Attached video
- Attached link
- Heart reactions
- All comments
Comments are lost with the post.
Do not expect the conversation to remain after deletion.
Posts Cannot Be Edited
A Campfire post cannot be edited.
Delete and repost when the post contains:
- Wrong time
- Wrong link
- Wrong photo
- Private information
- A serious typo
- An incorrect family update
For a minor typo that does not change the meaning, the family may choose to leave it.
How to Delete Your Own Post
The basic flow is:
- Open Campfire.
- Open the post.
- Open the post options.
- Choose Delete.
- Review the warning.
- Confirm.
Exact labels may differ by platform.
How a Parent Deletes a Child’s Post
A parent can remove a child’s post.
This may be needed when the post includes:
- Private information
- An inappropriate photo
- An unsafe link
- Unkind content
- A message published by mistake
After deleting, explain why the post was removed.
Then review the child’s posting permission if needed.
Child Comments
Comments cannot be edited.
The author cannot delete their own comment through the confirmed normal flow.
A parent can remove a child’s comment.
Use parent removal when the comment contains:
- Private details
- Hurtful language
- An unsafe link
- An accidental message
- Information not appropriate for the family feed
Adult Comments
The current confirmed information does not establish whether a parent can remove another adult’s comment or their own comment.
Do not promise this behavior until verified.
An adult can add a correction in a new comment if needed.
Before You Delete
Ask:
- Is the post truly wrong or unsafe?
- Will useful comments be lost?
- Would a follow-up post solve the issue?
- Does the family need a screenshot or record?
- Should the child’s permission change afterward?
Delete promptly when privacy or safety is involved.
Deleted Content and Recovery
Do not assume deleted Campfire content can be restored.
The current product behavior should be treated as permanent deletion unless support confirms otherwise.
Need help? Open Help in the S’moresUp app and send us a message. This is the fastest way to reach the support team.
Campfire Versus Community Deletion
Campfire
- Author can delete own post
- Parent can delete child’s post
- Comments disappear with the post
Community
- Creator can delete own post
- Other parents can report the post
- Reporting hides it from the reporter and sends it for admin review
Community moderation is covered in a separate article.
Common Problems
The wrong photo was posted
Delete the full post and create a new one.
An important comment was lost
Comments disappear when the post is deleted.
A child keeps posting unsuitable content
Update the child’s per-child Campfire permission.
An adult comment needs correction
Add a follow-up comment until delete behavior is verified.
The deleted post still appears briefly
Refresh the view and use in-app Help if it remains.
