Review Your Week in S’moresUp

A weekly review keeps S’moresUp useful after the first setup excitement wears off.

This is not a report card.

It is a five-minute check-in:

  1. Celebrate one win
  2. Notice one repeated problem
  3. Make one small change

Weekly View provides the information. The family conversation decides what to do with it.

Minute 1: Start with a Win

Look at completed chores first.

Celebrate something specific:

  • You remembered pet care before the reminder
  • The trash rotation worked this week
  • You completed your first Bonus chore
  • The family finished a shared cleanup
  • You kept working toward a reward goal

Specific recognition shows the child what worked.

A short Campfire post can make the win visible:

We kept the morning chores moving this week. Nice work getting backpacks ready on time.

Minute 2: Pick One Pattern

Do not discuss every missed chore.

Choose one responsibility that:

  • Was missed more than once
  • Needed repeated reminders
  • Caused an argument
  • Felt unfair
  • Was marked complete before the finish line
  • Arrived at the wrong time
  • Created too much parent Approval work

One pattern is enough.

Minute 3: Ask What Happened

Try:

  • Did the reminder arrive when you could act?
  • Was the chore clear?
  • Did another event get in the way?
  • Did the chore feel too large?
  • Should someone else own it?
  • Was the reward useful?
  • What would make next week easier?

Let the child answer before changing the setup.

Minute 4: Make One Change

Possible changes include:

  • Rewrite the chore name
  • Add short instructions
  • Add or shorten a S’mart List
  • Move the due time
  • Change the reminder
  • Reassign the chore
  • Change to Rotate
  • Remove Approval
  • Adjust the S’mores value
  • Remove an unwanted reward
  • Set a child Home or Away
  • Delete a chore that no longer matters

Change one thing so the family can tell whether it helped.

Minute 5: Close the Review

End with:

  • The change
  • The next review date
  • One encouraging statement

Example:

We moved the lunchbox reminder to 3:30 PM. We will check next Sunday. Thank you for helping us find a better time.

Stop before the review turns into a lecture.

Review Fairness

Fair does not always mean identical.

Consider:

  • Effort
  • Age and readiness
  • Time
  • School and activity schedule
  • Difficulty
  • Support needed
  • Shared work

Use Weekly View as one source, not the whole fairness decision.

Review Rewards

Ask:

  • Are rewards still wanted?
  • Are costs reachable?
  • Are approved rewards being honored?
  • Is every chore being treated as paid work?
  • Does one child earn much faster because of chore type or assignment?
  • Should a reward be removed or replaced?

On Free, new earnings go into Spend.

Review Parent Work

Premium tools should reduce confusion, not create another job.

Check for:

  • Too many approvals
  • Too many Photo Proof submissions
  • Too many reminders
  • Too many complex chore types
  • Too many Wallet corrections
  • Too many reward requests waiting

Remove a control when the family no longer needs it.

Use Campfire Carefully

Campfire posts go to the whole family.

Use it for:

  • Celebration
  • Shared update
  • New weekly focus

Do not use it for:

  • Public correction
  • Sibling comparison
  • Private conflict
  • Embarrassing reminders
