Premium Tune-Up Checklist

Premium gives your family more control.

Getting more value from it does not mean turning on every feature.

A good tune-up asks:

Which control helped? Which one created more work? What can we simplify?

Use this checklist after the family has tried Premium for at least a week.

Chores

Check:

  • Are chore names clear?
  • Is the right person assigned?
  • Does the chore happen on the right day?
  • Is the due time realistic?
  • Does the S’mores value feel fair?
  • Is Individual still the best type?
  • Would Rotate make turns clearer?
  • Would Collaborate fit a shared project?
  • Is Compete still fun?
  • Should an ignored As Needed chore become assigned?
  • Are Bonus chores truly optional?

Remember: Individual and As Needed are available in Free.

Parent Approval and Photo Proof

Check:

  • Which chores truly need Approval?
  • Are simple chores waiting in the queue?
  • Are approvals reviewed promptly?
  • Does rejection use clear feedback?
  • Does Photo Proof make the result clearer?
  • Can either control be removed now?

Approval and Photo Proof should improve the finish line.

They should not make every family contribution wait for inspection.

Lock and Late Penalty

Check:

  • Does the chore have a real deadline?
  • Does late completion still help?
  • Is Lock too strict?
  • Is Late Penalty creating confusion?
  • Did the child understand the rule?
  • Is the due time causing the problem?

Use Away, not Lock, when a child is not available to do chores.

Away excuses that member’s chores and preserves schedules and streaks.

Reminders

Check:

  • Does each reminder have a job?
  • Are several reminders saying the same thing?
  • Is the first reminder too early?
  • Is the final reminder too late?
  • Does the parent still need an alert?
  • Can the child manage with fewer reminders?

Free includes one reminder.

Premium adds multiple reminders.

Custom Schedules

Check:

  • Does the frequency match real life?
  • Is the target easy to explain?
  • Would selected days be simpler?
  • Does the child wait until the last day?
  • Is an end date needed?
  • Are reminders supporting the period?

Custom X-times-per-period schedules are Premium-only.

Standard schedule patterns are not.

S’mart Lists

Check:

  • Does the chore need several steps?
  • Is the list short?
  • Are the action words clear?
  • Does one step belong as a separate chore?
  • Is the child ready for a shorter list?
  • Does the list match what the parent reviews?

Remove detail as the child learns.

Reward Approval

Check:

  • Which rewards truly need Approval?
  • Are requests reviewed promptly?
  • Does the reward affect money, time, or the family schedule?
  • Are approved rewards honored?
  • Are rejected requests explained?

Approval should protect a real family decision, not slow every small reward.

Reward Availability and Inventory

Check:

  • Should the reward appear only on selected days?
  • Is the current Reward Count useful?
  • Should Auto Refill happen weekly or monthly?
  • Is the refill amount clear?
  • Does the reward need an expiration date?
  • Is the child able to understand when it is available?

Remember:

  • Selected-day availability uses weekdays, not hours
  • Auto Refill is Premium
  • There is no separate once-per-day switch
  • Reward controls do not apply to Bonus chores or Cash-Out

Community

Check:

  • Does the parent use Community?
  • Are the posts and ideas helpful?
  • Would the family prefer a household-only Campfire experience?
  • Should Community remain visible?
  • Are Community notifications useful?

Premium families can turn Community off.

That removes the Community tab and stops Community notifications while keeping Campfire available.

Do Not Count These as Premium Benefits

Keep these out of the Premium-only list:

  • Wallet
  • Google Calendar sync
  • Smart appliance integrations
  • Community itself
  • Unlimited family members
  • Unlimited chores
  • No ads

S’moresUp Free currently has no ads.

Subscription messaging may explain that support helps keep the app ad-free.

Remove Outdated Claims

Do not include:

  • Mini-Me mode
  • Assigning chores to parents as a special feature
  • Smart nudges
  • Pattern-based automation
  • Exclusive offers

Weekly Review

Open Weekly View and review:

  • Current week
  • Prior week
  • One family member
  • One category
  • One time period
  • Late chores
  • Locked chores
  • Approval patterns

Celebrate one win.

Change one repeated problem.

Remove One Control

A good Premium tune-up often ends by removing something.

Examples:

  • Remove one extra reminder
  • Turn off Approval for a simple chore
  • Remove Photo Proof from a trusted routine
  • Change Compete to Rotate
  • Replace a custom schedule with selected days
  • Shorten a S’mart List
  • Simplify a reward’s inventory
  • Turn off Community
  • Delete an unused Bonus chore

Simpler can be better.
