A S’mart List breaks one chore into smaller steps.
It is useful when the chore name alone does not explain what finished looks like.
S’mart Lists are live and Premium-only.
When a S’mart List Helps
Use one when:
- The chore has several steps
- The child forgets the final step
- Approval often leads to rejection
- Different adults explain the chore differently
- The child is learning a new skill
- The work happens only once per week
- A picture is not enough
Examples:
- Pack school bag
- Clean bathroom
- Complete bedtime routine
- Prepare for sports practice
- Put away laundry
- Clean pet area
Example
Chore: Pack the school bag
S’mart List:
- Add homework folder
- Add lunchbox
- Add water bottle
- Add library book
- Put the bag by the door
The child can see the finish line before marking the chore complete.
Quick Start
- Open the chore from a parent profile.
- Find the S’mart List option.
- Add the steps.
- Put them in a useful order.
- Save.
- Open the chore from the child profile.
- Test the list once.
- Remove or rewrite any unclear step.
Exact controls should be verified.
Keep the List Short
A useful list may contain:
- Three to seven steps
- Short action words
- One result per line
- A clear order
Avoid turning a simple chore into a long inspection form.
Instead of:
Clean room
Try:
- Put clothes in hamper
- Put books on shelf
- Put toys in bin
- Clear the floor
Use Action Words
Start each step with a verb.
Good:
- Add water bottle
- Wipe sink
- Put shoes away
- Close backpack
Less clear:
- Water bottle
- Sink
- Shoes
- Backpack
The child should know what to do.
S’mart List and Approval
A S’mart List can make Parent Approval fairer.
The parent reviews the same steps the child saw.
Example:
If the list says:
- Wipe counter
- Wipe sink
- Put towel back
the parent should not reject the chore because the mirror was not cleaned unless that step was also explained.
Clear expectations should come before completion.
S’mart List and Photo Proof
Use both when:
- The chore has several steps
- The final result is visual
- The parent is not nearby
Example:
Clean bedroom
The S’mart List explains:
- Clothes in hamper
- Books on shelf
- Floor clear
Photo Proof shows the final room.
Approval lets the parent review it.
Do not add all three controls to a chore that does not need them.
One Chore or Several Chores?
Use a S’mart List when the steps form one responsibility.
Use separate chores when the steps:
- Happen at different times
- Need different reminders
- Earn different S’mores
- Have different owners
- Need separate approval
A fifteen-step morning list may be harder to use than several clear chores.
Update the List as Skills Grow
A child may need more detail at first.
Later, simplify the list.
Example:
Learning stage
- Sort light and dark clothes
- Start washer
- Move clothes to dryer
- Fold clothes
- Put clothes away
- Return basket
Independent stage
- Complete personal laundry
The goal is growing ownership.
Common Problems
The list is too long
Split the work into separate chores.
The child checks steps without doing them
Use Approval, Photo Proof, or clearer family guidance.
Adults disagree about the finish line
Agree on the list before assigning the chore.
One step needs a different due time
Create a separate chore.
The feature is not available
Confirm the active Premium plan.
Common Questions
Are S’mart Lists Premium-only?
Yes.
Are they live in S’moresUp?
Yes.
Can they be used with Approval and Photo Proof?
Yes, where supported.
Should every chore have one?
No.
Are they part of smart automation?
No. Smart nudges and pattern automation are not implemented.
Best First Action
Choose one broad chore that keeps getting completed halfway.
Add a S’mart List with three to five clear steps and test it from the child view.
