How Parent and Child Views Differ

Parents and children use S’moresUp for different jobs.

Parents manage the family system.

Children use their view to see responsibilities, complete work, earn S’mores, and follow progress.

The screens do not need to look or behave exactly the same.

Chore Completion

From the child view:

  1. Open the chore.
  2. Read the instructions.
  3. Complete the work.
  4. Mark the chore complete.
  5. Add Photo Proof when required.
  6. Wait for approval when required.

When no approval is required, the chore can move to completed progress according to the setup.

Approval and Rejection

From the parent view:

  1. Open the approval area.
  2. Review the completed chore.
  3. Approve or reject it.
  4. Add clear feedback where supported.

When approved:

When rejected:

  • The chore returns to the child’s active list
  • No S’mores are awarded
  • The original submitted photo is no longer visible
  • The child can correct and submit again

Excuse

Only a parent can excuse a chore occurrence.

Excuse:

  • Applies to one instance
  • Awards no S’mores
  • Preserves the chore streak
  • Preserves the member’s daily streak

  • Keeps future occurrences active

The child sees that they are not responsible for that occurrence.

  • Show the current week
  • Show the prior week

Children may see personal streaks or progress in their own view.

S’moresUp does not need to turn siblings into a scoreboard.

Shared Device Switching

On a shared device:

  • The child enters their profile
  • Completes their actions
  • Returns to the chooser
  • The parent enters the adult profile

Use PINs to protect adult controls.

When Someone Sees the Wrong Screen

Check:

  • Duplicate profiles
  • PIN entry
  • Current permissions

Do not create another family member until the existing profile is checked.
