How to Create a Task

You can create a task from the Tasks area by tapping the plus button, adding the task name, choosing a category, assigning S’mores points, selecting who should do it, and setting the schedule.

Start simple. You can always edit the task later.

Quick Start

  1. Choose one simple task.
  2. Check the owner, timing, and expected result.
  3. Save or complete the task.
  4. Review what happened before adding more.

Why this helps

Clear tasks can reduce repeated reminders and give children a better chance to follow through.

Steps to create a task

  1. Open S’moresUp.
  2. Go to the Tasks section.
  3. Tap the plus button.
  4. Enter the task name.
  5. Choose a task category.
  6. Add S’mores points.
  7. Choose who the task is assigned to.
  8. Select the task type, such as Individual, As Needed, Rotate, Compete, or Collaborate, if available.
  9. Set the schedule, such as Once, Daily, or Weekly.
  10. Add a due time if the task needs a deadline.
  11. Add reminders if helpful.
  12. Tap Create.

What to include in the task name

Use clear names your child can understand.

Better:

  • Put laundry in hamper
  • Feed the dog
  • Clear dinner plate
  • Pack school bag

Less helpful:

  • Clean up
  • Be responsible
  • Help around the house

A clear task name makes it easier for kids to know what “done” means.

Optional settings

Depending on your plan and setup, you may also be able to add:

  • Photo proof
  • Approval required
  • Late penalty
  • Lock task after due time
  • Auto-allocate S’mores to savings
  • Notes, pictures, videos, or smart lists

Use these only where they help. Not every task needs advanced settings.

Good to know

  • Use categories to keep tasks organized.
  • Use due times for tasks that need to happen by a specific time.
  • Use reminders for tasks kids often forget.
  • Use approval for tasks where quality matters.
  • Use notes or pictures when the child needs extra instructions.

Family Example

Create one task today that your child already does sometimes, but not consistently. Keep the setup simple and let them complete it once before adding more tasks.

Good to Know

  • Start with the smallest version that solves the problem.
  • Change one setting at a time so you can see what helped.
  • Missed days are information, not proof that your family failed.
  • Open Help in the IAFT app and send a message if something does not work as expected.

Best First Action

Create one task today that your child already does sometimes, but not consistently. Keep the setup simple and let them complete it once before adding more tasks.
