How Bonus and Penalty Work

Sometimes a parent wants to recognize an extra effort or apply a clear consequence. IAFT uses Bonus and Penalty for these changes so the wallet keeps a visible record of what happened.

Quick Start

  1. Use Bonus when you want to add S’mores for a specific reason.
  2. Use Penalty when your family has a clear rule for removing S’mores.
  3. Add a simple explanation.
  4. Review the wallet transaction so the change is visible.

Bonus

  • Adds S’mores to a member’s wallet.
  • Works well for extra effort, kindness, or a special family contribution.
  • Should not replace clear task values.

Penalty

  • Removes S’mores from a member’s wallet.
  • Works best when the rule was explained before the penalty.
  • Should not be a surprise or the main way the family handles missed tasks.

Wallet control

  • Parents cannot directly type a new wallet balance.
  • Bonus and Penalty create the supported path for adding or removing S’mores.
  • The transaction history helps the family understand why the balance changed.

Family Example

A parent gives a 20-S’more Bonus for helping a sibling without being asked. A Penalty may be used only when the family already has a clear rule connected to a specific behavior.

Good to Know

  • Start with the smallest version that solves the problem.
  • Change one setting at a time so you can see what helped.
  • Missed days are information, not proof that your family failed.
  • Open Help in the IAFT app and send a message if something does not work as expected.

Best First Action

Use one Bonus to recognize a specific contribution and tell the family member why it mattered.
