How to Add a Child

You can add a child from your family settings. Each child gets a profile so you can assign tasks, set rewards, customize their view, and track their progress.

A child profile helps S’moresUp show the right tasks, rewards, and reminders for that child.

Quick Start

  1. Choose one small action connected to this topic.
  2. Try it with one family member or one part of the day.
  3. Notice what becomes easier or clearer.
  4. Adjust one thing before adding more.

Why this helps

Clear roles help responsibility move beyond one parent’s memory.

Steps to add a child

  1. Open S’moresUp.
  2. Tap your profile picture or menu icon.
  3. Go to Settings.
  4. Open Family Settings.
  5. Choose Add Kid or Add Child.
  6. Enter the child’s name.
  7. Add optional details like birthday, profile photo, or email if needed.
  8. Set any profile preferences, such as PIN or display options.
  9. Save the profile.

Once the child is added, you can start assigning tasks to them.

What you can manage in a child profile

A child profile can include:

  • Name
  • Profile photo
  • Birthdate
  • Email, if used for login or invitations
  • PIN, if you want extra profile security
  • Reward access
  • Savings goal access
  • Task display preferences
  • Home or Away status, when available

These settings help you personalize the app for each child.

When to use an email for a child

Some families use child emails so kids can log in on their own device. Others do not need that right away.

If your child is younger or shares a device with a parent, you may not need a separate email at first. If your child is older and will use S’moresUp independently, adding or inviting through email may be helpful.

Set expectations before assigning tasks

Before you assign many tasks, explain what the child will see.

You can say:

“This is your profile. Your tasks will show up here. When you complete something, you can mark it done. We will review it together while we are learning.”

This makes the profile feel like a tool for ownership, not just parent control.

Family Example

After adding your child, assign only one task first. Pick something easy, like “Put laundry in hamper” or “Feed the pet.” Let your child complete it once so they understand the flow.

Good to Know

  • Start with the smallest version that solves the problem.
  • Change one setting at a time so you can see what helped.
  • Missed days are information, not proof that your family failed.
  • Open Help in the IAFT app and send a message if something does not work as expected.

Best First Action
