How Family Members Work in S’moresUp

Every person in S’moresUp has a profile.

The profile connects that person to their chores, reminders, S’mores, Reward Shelf activity, Wallet information, streaks, and progress.

A clear family setup helps everyone answer:

Which profile is mine?
What am I responsible for today?

S’moresUp does not enforce a limit on family members, but most families should start with the people who will use the app now.

Adult and Child Profiles

Adults and children use the family system differently.

Adult profiles

Adults may be able to:

  • Add or edit family members
  • Create and assign chores
  • Set schedules and reminders
  • Set S’mores values
  • Approve or reject completed chores
  • Excuse one chore occurrence
  • Create and manage rewards
  • Review Weekly View
  • Help with Wallet and allowance actions
  • Manage family settings
  • Post or respond in Campfire

Exact adult permissions should be verified in the current app.

Child profiles

Children may be able to:

  • See assigned chores
  • Open instructions
  • Mark work complete
  • Add Photo Proof
  • Receive reminders
  • See approval or rejection updates
  • Review earned S’mores
  • View the Reward Shelf
  • Use supported Wallet actions
  • See streaks and progress
  • Participate in Campfire based on settings

A child does not need access to every parent control.

One Profile per Person

Give each family member one clear profile.

This keeps:

  • Chores assigned to the right person
  • Reminders going to the right device
  • S’mores connected to the right Wallet
  • Save and Spend activity accurate
  • Weekly View useful
  • Streaks connected to the right member
  • Reward requests easy to understand

Do not create a second profile only because a child changes devices, grows older, or gets a new email address.

Edit the existing profile when the person is the same.

Profiles and Chores

A chore is connected to one or more family members through the chore type.

Examples:

  • Individual assigns one person.
  • Rotate assigns one person for each occurrence.
  • Collaborate includes several participants.
  • Compete lets eligible members try for the first completion.
  • As Needed can be completed by eligible members when the need appears.
  • Bonus gives an optional earning opportunity.

The profile tells S’moresUp where the assignment, completion, and reward belong.

Profiles and S’mores

When a family member earns S’mores, the amount is connected to that person.

The earned S’mores can then be allocated between:

  • Spend
  • Save

The profile also connects the person to:

  • Reward requests
  • Wallet transactions
  • Savings goals
  • Bonus and Penalty activity
  • Reward Shelf choices

Using the wrong profile can place the reward or completion under the wrong person.

Shared Device or Personal Device

A family member can use S’moresUp in more than one way.

Shared device

Several family members use one phone or tablet and switch profiles.

This works well for:

  • Younger children
  • Families with one tablet
  • First-week setup
  • Children who do not need their own login yet

Personal device

A child or adult uses their own device and profile.

This works well when the person is ready to:

  • Check chores independently
  • Receive reminders
  • Mark work complete
  • Review S’mores and rewards
  • Manage more of the routine without parent help

Device access should match readiness, not only age.

Profile PINs

Profile PINs can help family members enter the right profile and protect adult controls on a shared device.

A PIN may help prevent:

  • A child opening a parent profile
  • Accidental changes
  • One sibling completing a chore under another profile
  • Unplanned Wallet or reward actions

A PIN is a simple family control. It does not replace device security or adult supervision.

Parents Can Help Without Giving Every Child a Device

A younger child can still use S’moresUp without a personal phone.

A parent can:

  1. Open the child’s profile on a shared device.
  2. Read the chore together.
  3. Help the child complete it.
  4. Let the child mark it done.
  5. Show the earned S’mores.
  6. Return to the parent profile.

This teaches the flow before independent access is needed.

Start with a Simple Family Setup

A useful first setup may include:

  • One or two adult profiles
  • One child profile for each child using chores
  • Recognizable names and photos
  • Profile PINs on a shared device
  • One familiar chore per child
  • One Reward Shelf item
  • One reminder on an important chore

Test each profile before creating a large chore list.
