How to Filter, Group, and Update Chores in Weekly View

Weekly View helps families review the current or prior week without looking at every chore at once.

You can narrow the view by family member, category, or time.

Parents can also update selected past chore states.

Both parents and children can access Weekly View, but parent actions are different from child access.

Start with One Question

Before using the controls, decide what you want to learn.

Examples:

  • Which chores belong to Maya?
  • Are Morning chores being missed?
  • Was this week different from last week?
  • Which chores are late or locked?
  • Is an approval still waiting?
  • Does a past chore need correction?

One question keeps the review focused.

Filter by Family Member

Use the family-member filter to see one person’s activity.

This can help with:

  • Workload
  • Completed chores
  • Missed chores
  • Late chores
  • Locked chores
  • Approval-needed work
  • Weekly patterns

Do not use the filter only to compare siblings.

Use it to improve ownership and fairness.

Group by Category

Group by category to review areas such as:

  • Morning
  • School
  • Pet Care
  • Kitchen
  • Laundry
  • Evening

Questions to ask:

  • Is one category often missed?
  • Does the category have too many chores?
  • Are the instructions clear?
  • Does one member own most of the category?

Categories organize the view.

They do not control reports or chore behavior.

Group by Time

Group by time to see when chores happen.

This can reveal:

  • A crowded morning
  • Too many after-school chores
  • Evening approval delays
  • Flexible chores with poor timing
  • A due time that does not fit the family schedule

Move the chore instead of adding more pressure when the timing is the problem.

Current Week and Prior Week

Weekly View supports:

  • Current week
  • Prior week

Use the current week for active follow-up.

Use the prior week to compare a recent pattern.

S’moresUp does not currently provide formal monthly reports or a full analytics dashboard.

Visible Statuses

Weekly View shows:

  • Missed, using an icon
  • Late
  • Locked

It does not show Excused or Rejected as separate visible statuses.

A rejected chore returns to the active chore list.

An excused occurrence preserves streaks but is not displayed as its own visible Weekly View status.

Mark a Past Chore Complete

Parents can mark a past chore complete from Weekly View.

Use this when:

  • The work was actually completed
  • The family member forgot to update the app
  • The parent confirmed the result

Do not use it to erase a miss when the work was not done.

The current S’mores and streak effects should be reviewed when using past completion.

Move a Chore Back to Pending

Parents can move a chore back to pending.

Use this when the state needs correction and the work still needs attention.

Confirm what happens to:

  • Awarded S’mores
  • Approval
  • Streaks
  • Photo Proof
  • Notifications

before publishing detailed consequences.

Approve a Chore

Parents can approve a chore from Weekly View.

Approval:

  • Accepts the work
  • Awards S’mores
  • Updates the completed state
  • Applies automatic Wallet allocation

Review approvals promptly so children do not wait too long for the result.

Reject a Chore

Parents can reject a chore from Weekly View.

When rejected:

  • No S’mores are awarded
  • The chore returns to the active list
  • The child can correct and resubmit
  • The original submitted photo is no longer visible

Use clear feedback where supported.

Excuse Is Not Available Here

Parents cannot excuse a chore from Weekly View.

Use the normal chore-card flow for Excuse.

Only a parent can excuse an occurrence.

Excuse:

  • Awards no S’mores
  • Preserves the chore streak
  • Preserves the member daily streak
  • Keeps future occurrences active
  • Notifies the child

Child Access

Children can access Weekly View.

They can use it to see:

  • Recent work
  • Completed chores
  • Missed, late, or locked activity
  • Their own progress

Parent actions such as approval, rejection, or state changes remain adult controls.

A Focused Weekly Review

  1. Open the current week.
  2. Filter by one member.
  3. Group by category or time.
  4. Notice one win.
  5. Notice one repeated problem.
  6. Update a chore only when the recorded state is wrong.
  7. Change one future setup item.

Keep the review short.
