How to Use Campfire

Campfire is the family communication space inside S’moresUp.

Parents and children can use it to share updates, celebrate progress, post photos, and keep the household connected.

Campfire works best when it includes more than reminders.

Use it to notice what the family is doing well.

What You Can Share

Campfire supports:

  • Text
  • One photo
  • Multiple photos
  • Video
  • Links

Campfire does not support polls.

A family post is shared with the whole household.

It cannot be sent to only one person or selected family members.

Who Can Post

Both parents and children can post.

A parent can control Campfire access per child.

Depending on that child’s settings, the child may be allowed to:

  • View Campfire
  • Create posts
  • Share photos as part of a post

Comment and Heart-reaction permissions are not separate child settings.

Good Uses for Campfire

Celebrate chores

Nice work finishing the kitchen chores before dinner.

Share family updates

Soccer practice moved to 6:00 PM.

Recognize a streak

Maya kept her pet-care streak going all week.

Ask a family question

Which reward should we add next?

Share a memory

Post photos or a video from a family activity.

Coordinate a project

Saturday goal: organize the game shelf together.

Share a useful link

Add a link the whole family needs.

Keep Recognition More Common Than Correction

If Campfire is used only for:

  • “Do your chores”
  • “You forgot again”
  • “Why is this still pending?”

family members may stop paying attention.

Try to post more:

  • Specific praise
  • Progress
  • Photos
  • Questions
  • Shared plans
  • Family wins

A good Campfire post names the action.

Instead of:

Good job.

Try:

You remembered to put the lunchbox in the sink without another reminder.

The Family Audience

Every Campfire post goes to the whole family.

Before publishing, ask:

  • Is this appropriate for everyone in the household?
  • Does it include private information?
  • Does the photo show something a family member would rather keep private?
  • Is this better handled in person?

Do not use Campfire for private one-to-one messages.

Comments and Heart Reactions

Everyone in the family can comment and use the Heart reaction.

Comments cannot be edited or deleted by the person who wrote them.

A parent can remove a child’s comment.

The only reaction is Heart.

Post, comment, and reaction notifications are not configurable.

Posts Cannot Be Edited

A Campfire post cannot be edited after publishing.

If the post contains a mistake:

  1. Delete it.
  2. Create a corrected post.

The author can delete their own post.

A parent can also delete a child’s post.

Deleting the post removes all comments attached to it.

Posts Cannot Be Scheduled or Pinned

Campfire does not currently support:

  • Scheduled posts
  • Pinned posts

Post the update when the family needs it.

For a time-sensitive event, use the Family Calendar as the main planning tool.

Photos, Videos, and Links

Use media when it adds value.

Examples:

  • A finished family project
  • A short celebration video
  • A link to a school page
  • Photos from an outing
  • A progress update

Do not share:

  • Passwords
  • Addresses
  • School identification
  • Private documents
  • Sensitive family information
  • Photos someone does not want posted

Campfire Versus Community

Campfire is for the household.

Community is parent-only and connects parents with the wider S’moresUp community.

A Community post can be shared into Campfire.

A Campfire post cannot be shared into Community.

A Simple Family Pattern

Try:

Monday

Post the week’s focus.

Midweek

Share encouragement or a photo.

Friday

Celebrate one visible win.

Weekend

Ask what should change next week.

One or two useful posts may be enough.

Common Problems

The feed feels like another reminder list

Add more recognition and fewer corrections.

A child should not be posting

Update that child’s Campfire permissions.

A post has a mistake

Delete and repost it.

A private update was shared

Delete it promptly and talk with the family about posting rules.

The family receives too many Campfire alerts

Notifications are not configurable. Reduce posting frequency if needed.
