How Comments and Heart Reactions Work

Family members can respond to Campfire posts with:

  • Comments
  • A Heart reaction

Everyone in the family can comment and react when they can access Campfire.

The only available reaction is Heart.

Use Heart for Quick Recognition

A Heart is a simple way to say:

  • I saw this
  • I like this
  • Nice work
  • This matters to me
  • Thank you for sharing

It works well for:

  • Chore celebrations
  • Family photos
  • Progress updates
  • Reward announcements
  • Helpful links

A Heart is quick, but a specific comment can be more meaningful.

Add a Comment

Use comments to:

  • Encourage
  • Ask a question
  • Add information
  • Thank someone
  • Continue a family conversation

Examples:

Nice work finishing before the reminder.

What time should we start game night?

I can help with the garage project.

Thank you for sharing the school link.

Keep comments appropriate for the whole family.

Comments Cannot Be Edited

A comment cannot be edited after it is posted.

The person who wrote it also cannot delete it through the normal confirmed flow.

A parent can remove a child’s comment.

If an adult comment contains a mistake, use a follow-up comment or confirm the current parent controls before relying on removal.

Parents Can Remove a Child’s Comment

A parent may remove a child’s comment when it includes:

  • Private information
  • Unkind language
  • An inappropriate link
  • A message posted by mistake
  • Content not suitable for the whole family

Use the moment to explain the family posting rule.

Removing the comment should not become the only response when the child needs guidance.

Post Deletion Removes Comments

When a Campfire post is deleted, all comments attached to that post are lost.

The author can delete their own post.

A parent can delete a child’s post.

Before deleting a post with an important family conversation, remember that the comments will disappear too.

Reactions Cannot Be Customized

Campfire does not offer a set of different reactions.

The only reaction is Heart.

There is no confirmed:

  • Like
  • Laugh
  • Sad
  • Celebrate
  • Custom emoji reaction

Use a comment when the family needs more meaning.

Notifications Are Not Configurable

Post, comment, and Heart-reaction notifications are not configurable.

Families cannot choose separate alert settings for each interaction type.

If Campfire becomes noisy:

  • Post less often
  • Keep updates more useful
  • Use comments only when needed
  • Move event planning to Calendar
  • Move chore reminders to chore notifications

Child Permission Limits

Parents can control per child whether the child can:

  • View Campfire
  • Post and share photos

Comment and reaction access are not separate permission switches in the confirmed model.

A child who can access Campfire may be able to comment and Heart posts based on the current family setup.

Keep Responses Useful

Good comments:

  • Name the effort
  • Answer the question
  • Add useful context
  • Stay kind
  • Stay short

Avoid:

  • Public correction meant for one child
  • Sibling comparison
  • Private information
  • Arguments in the family feed
  • Repeated nagging

Handle sensitive correction in person.

Family Example

A parent posts:

Ava completed her weekly laundry chore and put the basket away.

A sibling taps Heart.

The parent comments:

Nice follow-through. You finished the last step too.

The interaction makes the progress visible without adding another reward.

Common Problems

A comment has a typo

Comments cannot be edited. Add a correction in a new comment.

A child posts something inappropriate

A parent can remove the child’s comment.

The author wants to delete their comment

Author deletion is not supported in the confirmed flow.

The family wants another reaction

Only Heart is available.

Interaction notifications are too frequent
